William B. Shattuck, Sr. was the son of Maj. William Shattuck and Lydia Allis.

Per Cleveland (1873, The History of Yates County, Vol. I, p. 222): "William Shattuck of Penn Yan, a lawyer, whose house and office stood on the present premises of B. W. Franklin. Shattuck was a Quaker, and he had a partners by the name of John Willey. He was one of the earliest lawyers in Penn Yan, and about 1825 moved to Prattsburg and thence to Warren county, Pennsylvania, where he engaged largely in land speculation. He was Lieutenant Colonel of the old 103d Regiment of Infantry, his commission bearing date June 3, 1820. This was no doubt before he became a Quaker."

He married three times and fathered at least fifteen children.

Spouse not linked: Aurilla Bronson 1789-1814, married 1810. William married secondly Mary Hart in 1815 (daughter of Epenetus Hart).
