"Ella Jane Chambers was born on a farm west of Dunlap Sunday, April 14, 1918 to Henry and Elsie (Weber) Buter. Ella Jane died Monday, May 11, 1998, at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Neb. from cancer and its complications. She was 80 years and 26 days of age.
Ella Jane graduated from Dunlap High School in 1936. On November 5, 1941 she married Byron S. Chambers at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap. They resided on a farm near Dow City and one near Buck Grove until moving to her childhood home and farm four miles west of Dunlap in 1948. They farmed there for nearly 50 years. Byron died February 23, 1998.

Ella Jane's interests included her church, St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap, where she held various jobs during the years. She enjoyed gardening and sewing for her various friends in the community.

Survivors include three children: Arlene and her husband Jack Seeley of Seattle, Wash.; Sharon and her husband Charles Markusich of Livingston, Mont.; Roger of Sturgis, S.D.; four grandchildren, Chris Seeley, Paul Seeley, Catherine McKessick and Jeff Markusich; and eight great-grandchildren and other relatives.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers, Leonard and Glen Buter; one sister, Delpha, and one grand-daughter, Heather Markusich. Funeral services were held Thursday morning, May 14, 1998, for Ella Jane Chambers at St. John Lutheran Church in Dunlap, Rev. Paul Fohs officiated at the 10:30 a.m. service.

Interment was at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Dunlap with Fouts Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Pallbearers were Roger Chambers, Chris Seeley, Kenneth Lapke, Jeff Markusich, Paul Seeley and Kenneth Mumm."
