With the death of Annette in 1951, the task of raising five young children, ranging in age from 1 – 10 years, rested on Adolph. He rose to the task, which was very trying at times. They children were normal children, prone to disputes which needed to be resolved. Adolph was a responsible, devoted father and participated in school activities as the farming operation would allow. He cared for the children in illness and injury and encouraged them in their school activities. He also expected his children to work hard in the farming operation and taught them the value of a work ethic and a conservative lifestyle.

Adolph is the third generation to live on the family farm, which was recognized in 1985 as a Minnesota Century Farm, having been in the family for at least 100 years. In 1938, the farm ownership was transferred to him from his father, Adolph Sr. His youngest son, Charles, has now taken over the family farm.
