In 1863 she crossed the plains to Walla Walla where she lived for many years, and where he husband, the late Albert Cate, whom she married abt 1866, was a successful farmer and a thoro-going businessman.

After the death of her husband, Mrs. Cate came to Morrow county and has resided here most of the time for the last 18 or 20 years.

Losing her home in the Heppner flood of 1903, she has not been permanently located since but has divided her time with her daughter, Mrs. F. Walker, in Moscow, Idaho, and her sister, Mrs. Artie Saling, of Estacada, Ore., are her old friends and relatives in this city.

Mrs. Cates was the youngest of a family of five girls, only one of whom is left. She is the mother of eight children, only one of whom remains. This sister and daughter were permitted to be with her when the end came.

Mrs. Cate united with the Christian Church in her young girlhood and lived an earnest, devoted member of the same until the day of her death.

Her funeral took place on Sunday the 25th, at 2:30 p.m. at the Christian church in this city, and the large number of people attending attested to the high appreciation for her splendid life and character.

After the services at the church, which were short and impressive, her remains were borne to the Masonic Cemetery where the last sad rites were performed that closed the history of one o the most loved and noblest women ever connected with the life of our town and community.
