Frank worked as a toll collector for the Kansas Turnpike Authority for five years, retiring in 1991. He had formerly worked as a truck driver, hauling livestock and grain in the N.E. Kansas and Kansas City area for many years. He was a member of the McLouth First Baptist Church and a member the Good Sam Camping Club, wintering in Arizona and Texas from 1991 to 2008.
He was married Virginia Jean Combs on April 5, 1946, at Oskaloosa; she survives at the home in Perry.
Survivors include five sons, Garry Newman, Colbert, WA., Roger Newman, Berryton, KS., Bill Newman, Altus, OK., Mike Newman, Lawrence, KS., Dennis Newman, Ozawkie, KS.; seven daughters, Vivian Magill, Casa Grande, AZ., Carol Sue Oglesby, Ottawa, KS., twin daughters, Jeanette Sue Oshel, Windsor, MO., Janice Swain, Nevada, MO., Brenda Lawson, Frederickson, MO., Debra Lynn Roche, Del City, OK., Teresa A. Schimmel, Cape Coral, FL.; one sister, Essie Bayes, Maple Hill, KS.; 35 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, James Melvin Newman, three brothers and one sister.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at McLouth First Baptist Church. Burial will be at McLouth Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Barnett-Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
