DORIS MADDEN

Doris Madden, 79, of rural Akron, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

The former Doris D. Thill was born Sept. 7, 1929, on a farm near Remsen, the daughter of John and Blanche (Delperdang) Thill. She grew up in the Remsen area and attended St. Mary's Catholic School. She married Donald A. Madden on May 23, 1950 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen.

Following their marriage the couple farmed near Akron on the family farm in Johnson Township until 1962, when they moved to the Kingsley area and farmed in Arlington Township. In 1973 they moved back to the family farm in Johnson Township and continued farming. Her husband Donald A. Madden, Sr. died on March 23, 1996. For the last three years Doris had resided at Holy Spirit Retirement Home in Sioux City.

Doris was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church -- Ellendale, rural Merrill. She was also a member of the board for SiouxLand Singles and had been a volunteer for several years with the Department of Human Services.

Survivors include eight children: Vincent (Charlene) Madden of Sioux City, Duane (Alberta) Madden of Akron, Donald "Tony" (Patty) Madden, Jr. of Merrill, Kathy (Dennis) Poeckes of Remsen, Jason (Julie) Madden of Akron, Karen (Robert) Jorgensen of Sioux City, Roman (Lori) Madden of Akron and Russell (Sharon) Madden of Merrill; 16 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Darlene Goebel of Sioux City, Dorothy Madden of Le Mars and Violet Madden of Des Moines; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Donald Madden, Sr.; three grandchildren; a brother Roland Thill; and a sister Kathleen Rolfes.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church -- Ellendale, with the Rev. Daniel Greving presiding. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Visitation will be anytime after 3 p.m. Monday at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. A vigil prayer service will be at 7 p.m. Monday evening, with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Visitation will resume on Tuesday morning at the church one hour before the funeral.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Poeckes, Don Poeckes, Ron Delperdang, Robbie Trometer, Terry Trometer and Tom Huls.
