Lindley Murray Carter, dead
Lindley Murray Carter, 202 S. Merchant, a lawyer and formerly justice of the peace, died Wednesday afternoon at 5 o'clock at his home. He had been sick a year. Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10 o'clock in the Grace Methodist Church. Rev. J.C. Grogan, pastor of the church will conduct the services. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery.
Mr. Carter was born April 15, 1851, in New Bloomington, Clinton County, Ohio. He was the son of the late John and Elizabeth Carter. Mr. Carter came to Emporia in 1863. He married Mary E. Marlatt on May 20, 1880, in Mt. Holly, Oh. Mrs. Carter died January 27, 1895 in Emporia. Mr. Carter was married a second time to Margaret J. Milner on April 26, 1907. Mrs. Carter died August 1, 1932.
Mr. Carter was a member of the Friends Church. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Mr. Carter is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Fred Triggs, Route 3; a son, J.R. Carter, 202 S. Merchant; two sisters, Miss Jessie Carter of Chicago, Ill.; and Miss Anna Carter, of Kansas City; a brother, W. W. Carter of Saffordville.
