James Henry Gurley, 1829-1865. A native of Alabama. Son of Davis R. and Patience Smith Gurley. A charter member of Bosque (now Waco) Lodge No. 92, A.F. & A.M. Second Masonic lodge in Waco named in his memory. Attended LaGrange College. Came to Waco and engaged in general mercantile business. Later developed a large plantation. Married Lucy Barnard, ca. 1830-1869, sister of George Barnard. A Confederate veteran.
