Elizabeth Jane Peery Townsend was the daughter of Samuel Ross Peery and Mariah Jane Farris whom both survived her and resided in Brownville, Nebraska in 1909. Elizabeth was born in Mineral Point, Iowa County, Wisconsin on January 30, 1854.

She was the first born with seven younger siblings all survived her: four sisters: Isabella Rachel Peery Clapp of Bloomington, Nebraska; Emma Roxene Peery Dunafon of Beaver, Kansas; Mary Ellen Peery Owens of Holyoke, Colorado; and Amanda Mariah Peery Weaver of Willow Springs, Missouri. She was also survived by three brothers: Francis Alexander Peery of Joplin, Missouri, William Albert Peery of Lincoln, Nebraska, and John Arthur Peery of Ash Grove, Nebraska.

The Peery family moved to Franklin County, Nebraska around late 1870 from Iowa County, Wisconsin.

Elizabeth married an Englishman named Charles Henry Townsend in Brooklyn, Franklin County, Nebraska on August 3, 1872. They farmed there until about 1905 when they moved to Whatcom County, Washington.

Elizabeth and Charles had seven sons and two daughters. Two children died young, daughter Eunice died at age three years in 1880 and Baby Ray died at six months in 1889 (both are buried in the Moline Cemetery, Franklin County, Nebraska).

Elizabeth was survived by seven children, a 15 year-old daughter at home, Agnes Veda Townsend; and six sons: Charles Daniel Townsend of Vancouver, Canada; Russell Clarence Townsend of Strathcona, Canada; Albert Edward Townsend of Vancouver, Canada; Arthur Eugene Townsend of Oak Grove, Nebraska; Frank Earl Townsend of Mountain View, Washington and Ralph Peery Townsend of Ferndale, Washington.

Elizabeth had a gentle and loving sole, she would help anyone in need. She was patient and trusted in the Lord. Elizabeth went to her heavenly home on Wednesady, July 14, 1909 after patiently battling diabetes for several months.

Services were held at the Mennonite Church with Reverends Barbazat and Clos conducting the memorial service. Elizabeth was laid to rest in the Mountain View Cemetery on the afternoon of July 16, 1909.
