Henry Blick was born as Henricus R. de Blieck in Hoofdplaat, Zeeland in 1870 to Constant de Blieck (1839-1911) and Philomina "Minnie" Blaakman (1849-1919). When he was four years old, his family immigrated to America from Holland. They embarked from Antwerp, Belgium on the ship "Netherland". Constant and Minnie were the parents of ten children, and Henry was their second child. Henry's parents intended to settle in Hudson, Ohio, but they ended up in Hudson, Illinois. Henry gained American citizenship by his father's naturalization in McLean County, Illinois in 1882.

Henry moved west from Illinois, to Nebraska, with his family in 1885, where they stayed for five years. Then, the family moved to Fort Morgan, Colorado in 1890. Henry's family met the Samuel Franklin family, who resided south of Fort Morgan. And Henry married Mary Sarah Franklin on 08 June 1895. He was a well driller, by occupation and worked with Charley Franklin, who was a brother of Mary. Charley Franklin married Lena Blick, a sister of Henry. The two families were close and resided near each other. Henry and Mary took up a homestead near Fort Morgan, not far from Henry's parents Constant and Minnie. Henry and Mary Blick had four children born to them in Colorado: John Henry, born 1897; Charles Elmer, born 1899; Mary Minnie, born 1902; and Roy Albert, born 1907.

Other family of Henry moved to Washington State to engage in the lumber industry around 1907. Henry and Mary decided to follow them, and packed up their family in 1908. Mary's failing health was also a factor in their move, as the doctor told them the Washington air may be better suited for her. Henry Blick settled in Bellingham, Washington, located in Whatcom County and began to work in the lumber industry.

1911 was a difficult year for the Henry Blick family. Henry lost his father Constant Blick, and also his daughter Mary Minnie, to death in February of 1911. Then a few months later, his wife Mary died, in April. Henry continued to raise his sons in Bellingham. In 1913, he married Phebe Shepard, in Vancouver, BC. Phebe was a widow with a three year old son named Richard. Henry raised Richard as his own son.

With two of his brothers, Henry operated a sawmill near Enterprise Station. In 1916, a daughter was born to Henry and Phebe and they named her Nellie. In 1921, Henry and Phebe purchased land in Bellingham, where Henry built their home. He continued the occupation of millwright and remained in Bellingham. After an illness of several months duration in 1942, Henry died, leaving a his wife Phebe and 5 children.

Henry was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. His wife Phebe wrote in her journal: He was a good father, a good husband and a good neighbor, and we hold him in loving remembrance. "Think of him still as the same, I say. He is not dead, he is just away."
