Son of Elvira Dougherty and Benjamin Franklin Betsworth of Maryland. Born in St Charles, Kane County, Illinois, 17 of February, 1862. Relocated with his parents age 2 to Iowa, where he grew up.

Met and married Irene Wood Betsworth in Plymouth County, Iowa, in September of 1890. America, Iowa is where his family had migrated, after living in both New Jersey and Illinois.

The young Irene gave birth to their daughter Elvira in Iowa, and then the young couple moved to Elmworth, in what is now South Dakota.

In 1898, Allen and his young family moved to Dewey County, Oklahoma, where Allen worked a land claim farm for three decades. Allen later divorced Irene after raising four children, and remarried after moving to Canton, Blaine County, Oklahoma.

He was predeceased by his son Verne F. Betsworth, who died while serving his country in WWI. Allen Betsworth was survived by his second wife, Mrs. A.E. Betsworth, and by his daughter, Mrs. John W. Carter of Canton, and by his two sons Leo of Hugoton, Kansas, and Harry of Wichita, Kansas. Also survived by two adopted daughters: Mrs. Jessie Winn and Miss Florence Wood of Oklahoma City.
