Doris K. Hoops, 82, of Livingston, died Wednesday evening, April 21, 2004 at Livingston Memorial Hospital. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, April 27 at Franzen Davis Funeral Home. Graveside committal services and burial will be at 2 p.m. on Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery. The Rev. Carol Sims will officiate. Family and friends will gather at the funeral home prior to 1:45 p.m.

She was born on December 21, 1921 near Emigrant, the daughter of William and Olive (Lyman) Karnes. She spent her early life and attended schools in the Paradise Valley. In 1939, she graduated from Park County High School. On April 3, 1941 she married Walton C. Hoops in Livingston. While her husband was on active duty with the Marine Corps in the South Pacific, Doris worked as an aircraft designer in San Diego. Following the end of the war, the couple returned to Montana and ranched at various locations before settling on the family ranch in the Paradise Valley. In 1973, they moved to the Shields Valley, where the couple ranched together until Walton's death in 1981. Doris continued to live on the ranch until the time of her death.

She was a member of the Park County Pioneer Society and had attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. She greatly enjoyed birds and flowers and liked reading and doing crossword puzzles. She loved family gatherings and sharing stories of her life.

Her survivors include three sons and their wives; daughter and son in law; brother Harold Karnes and sister Marge Duarte; six grandchildren; two great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Walton C. Hoops, she was preceded in death by her parents, William and Olive (Lyman) Karnes; a grandson; three brothers and one sister.
