John Thomas Brown was born in Springfield, MO, then followed his family to Iola, Allen Co., KS where he joined the military. He is infamous in the family for the uncertain number of wives he had and in which order they married. His children are as follows:

VIOLETTA (BROWN) CLUBB, b.1862 d: 1907
JAMES HOMER BROWN, b. 1866 d. 1886.
SARAH FRANCES (BROWN) BROWN, b. 1868 d. 1936.
CHARLEY FRANCIS BROWN, b. 1872 d. 1937
JOHN AMOS BROWN, b. 1874 d. 1926
SUSAN LONA (BROWN) CHAFFIN SCOTT, b. 1878 d.unknown
HARRIET E "HATTIE"(BROWN) WILCHER KING RIDER, b.1882 d. 1968

His name appears on the list of U.S. Civil War draft registrations, as well as the Oklahoma and Indian Territory Indian Censuses and Rolls 1851-1859, along with his son Charley F. Brown. Both men appear on a listing of those claiming white and Cherokee heritage but not recognized as citizens of the Cherokee Nation.

John T. passed away in 1918, possibly as a result of the pandemic of influenza that killed millions of people worldwide that year. He died in Braggs, Oklahoma and is interred in South Bethel Cemetery there.
