Isham, Matilda and their family followed his father, the Alexander Brown family, to Missouri in the mid-1830s, then Isham moved to Allen Co., Kansas (the western part of the Cherokee Nation) in 1855. Some family went with them as the 1860 Census of Allen County shows; Isham's sons John Thomas and Robert and their wives, Isham's sister, Annis (Brown)Pace, and her daughter, and Annis's son William Pace and his family.
