Lorraine Canepa

Lorraine Canepa Services will be Friday for Lorraine Canepa, who died Monday at a local convalescent hospital. Mrs. Canepa was 83. She was born in Santa Cruz, where she grew up and lived all of her life. She worked alongside her husband, August "Augie" Canepa, as the owners of Santa Cruz Market on California Avenue for many years. She was devoted to her family, they said, and was described as an excellent cook. She was a member of Holy Cross Church, Italian Catholic Federation Branch 21, the Family of St. Joseph. She attended many functions of the Marconi Club. She is survived by daughter Janet Hutchins of Gardnerville, Nev.; son Richard Canepa of Santa Cruz; sister Augustine Bregante of Santa Cruz; and brother Victor Carniglia of Santa Cruz; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband, August Canepa, died in 1984. Her brothers John Carniglia, Marco Carniglia, August "Jocko" Carniglia and Virgil Carniglia also died before her. The funeral procession will leave Benito & Azzaro Pacific Gardens Chapel, 1050 Cayuga St., Santa Cruz, Friday at 9:30 a.m. for Holy Cross Church, 126 High St., Santa Cruz, where a Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. The vigil service will be at Pacific Gardens Chapel on Thursday at 7 p.m. Friends may call at the chapel Thursday from 2 p.m. until the service. Burial will be in Santa Cruz Memorial Park, 1927 Ocean St., Santa Cruz. Contributions are preferred to the American Heart Association 1710 Gilbreth Road, Burlingame, CA 94010.
