LAWRENCEVILLE, Ill. -- David Allen Holmes, 66, rural Lawrenceville, died today, May 17, 2002, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Vincennes.

Born Nov. 17, 1935, in Lawrence County, he was the son of William Edgar and Mary Theodore (Young) Holmes

Holmes retired from Marathon Oil Co. after 25 years, then worked for seven years as a driver for Rich-Law Service Co. His memberships included Central Christian Church, Stellar Masonic Lodge No. 912, and the Scottish Rite of Dansville.

Survivors include his wife, Margie (Potts) Holmes, whom he married May 7, 1955; two sons, Chris Holmes of Lawrenceville, and Ron Holmes of Flat Rock; four brothers, Don Holmes of St. Francisville, Junior Holmes of Sumner and Harold Holmes and Garold Holmes, both of Lawrenceville; four sisters, Hazel Holmes, Lula Belle Thompson, Daisey Hodges and Anna Ray, all of Lawrenceville; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

A son, five brothers and a sister are deceased.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Central Christian Church. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church through the funeral home.
