Anna J. Ray, age 87, of Bridgeport, passed away Monday, May 2, 2016, at Aperion Care Center in Bridgeport.

She was born February 8, 1929, in Lawrence County, Illinois, the daughter of William Edgar and Mary (Young) Holmes. She married Paul “Pete” Ray on October 17, 1947, and he preceded her in death on July 13, 1988.

Anna worked at Progressive Laundry, Akin Seed, Gosnell’s Egg Farm and Harry Loos’ Grocery.

She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church and the Blessing Circle group associated with the church.

Preceding Anna in death were her parents and her husband “Pete”, seven brothers and three sisters.

Survivors include a son, Mike Ray and his wife Judy, of rural Bridgeport; three brothers, Harold Holmes and wife Karen of Lawrenceville, Garold Holmes of Lawrenceville, and Edgar “Junior” Holmes and wife Ann of Lawrenceville; one sister, Daisy Hodges of Lawrenceville; four grandchildren Corrie Ray and wife Brooke, Chad Ray and wife Amy, Collin Ray and wife Kim and Christi Ray, as well as eight great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 AM Thursday, at Emmons-Macey & Steffey Funeral Home in Lawrenceville.

Visitation will be from 9 AM until the service hour of 11 AM at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Zion Cemetery.
