Catherine (Cathy) Louise Butler, 59, of Bellefonte, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, Sept. 9, 2010, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. She was born March 12, 1951, in Clearfield, and lived in Curwensville with her parents and three siblings. Cathy graduated from Curwensville High School and attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania before marrying Dr. Thomas Butler, of Stronach, on Aug. 22, 1970. In 1973, Dr. and Mrs. Butler moved to Bellefonte, where she devoted her life to her husband, and to loving, nurturing and educating their four children. Cathy enjoyed spending time with family, painting, gardening, reading, yoga, motorcycling, shooting and church activities. She is survived by her husband, Dr. Thomas Butler, of Bellefonte; a son, Rhett Butler and his wife, Kathryn Butler, of Falls Church, Va.; three daughters, Gail Butler-Varaly and her husband Dr. Jonas Varaly, of Bellefonte, Erin Butler, of Bellefonte, and Leigh Butler, of Hummelstown; two grandsons, William and George Butler, of Falls Church, Va.; parents-in-law Roy and Betty Butler, of Curwensville; a brother, John Michaels, of Pennfield, N.Y.; two sisters, Suzan Ferguson, of Youngstown, N.Y., and Carol Rogers, of Litiz. Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, A. Dean Michaels and Esther Michaels-McNaul, of Curwensville. A memorial service will be held at noon Tuesday, Sept.14, 2010, at First Baptist Church in Bellefonte, followed by a private burial service at the Friends Cemetery in Grampian. In lieu of flowers, her family requests that donations be made in her memory to the missionary fund of First Baptist Church, 539 Jacksonville Road, Bellefonte, PA 16823. Anyone wishing to send condolence cards should address them to the Butler family at 737 E. Linn St., Bellefonte, PA 16823.
