--GREAT FALLS - Mr. Ellie "Curly" McManus, 91, of Great Falls, S.C., died Monday, Sept. 13, 2010, at Palmetto Richland Hospital.
--A graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Greenlawn Cemetery in Great Falls, S.C., with the Rev. David Faile and the Rev. Greg Batchelor officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:45 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, 2010, at Dantzler-Baker Funeral Home, 26 Underwood Ave., Great Falls.
--Born April 1, 1919, in Kershaw County, S.C., he was a son of the late James Lee and Mary Ellen Branham McManus. He attended the schools of Kershaw County and was retired from the Town of Great Falls Sanitation Department. He was a member of the Church of God of Prophecy. Mr. McManus was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving during World War II in England, France and Germany, where he served as a tank destroyer cannoneer. He was a highly decorated veteran receiving the American Service Medal, Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, World War II Victory Medal, American Defense Service Medal and the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal.
--He is survived by three sons, Charles McManus and wife, Dene, of Clearwater, Fla., Stanley McManus and wife, Carol, and Lester McManus and wife, Dale, both of Great Falls; one daughter, Mary Jane Faile and husband, David, of Camden, S.C.; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Betty M. Mobley of Chester, S.C. He was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Chloe Rayne McManus.
