Virginia, 83, died peacefully on Saturday. She will be lovingly missed by her children Patricia & (John) Hanley and Robert & (Linda) Sims; her 5 grandchildren George, Kenneth, and Michael & (Emily) Hanley, and Dirk and Ashley Sims; and her great granddaughter Charlotte Elizabeth Hanley. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Virginia was born the daughter of Hugh and Marie Roach, who preceded her in death, as did her brother Hugh Roach. A graduate of Ottawa Hills High School in Grand Rapids and Michigan State University, Virginia enjoyed MSU Spartan football and basketball and was among the first group of MSU students to move into the newly constructed Landon Hall. She received her BA in Elementary Education and taught early elementary students before starting her own family. She also enjoyed following Greenville High School sports and performances. She was a member of the Per Gratis Club for over 50 years, and a 59 year parishioner at St Charles Catholic Church. She had also been a member of the St. Martin Guild. Virginia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Kenneth Sims, and devoted son, Stephen. Virginia was the best Mom, Mom-in-Law, Grand Mother, and Great Grandmother that anyone could ever wish for. Memories of her gentle nurturing and under- standing, and her quiet sense of humor will always be treasured. Arrangements are being handled by Marshall Funeral Home in Greenville. There was a Scripture reading and prayer service. A Funeral Mass was celebrated by Fr. Phil Salmonowicz at St Charles Catholic Church on Wednesday A luncheon will available immediately following at the St. Charles Activities Center. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those wishing to make a contribution do so in Virginia's memory to the Steve Sims Scholarship at Grosse Ile High School, or Hazel Findlay Manor in St. Johns, Michigan.
