Veteran of the War of 1812: May be the John Smart on the May 31, 1813 payroll of Lieutenant William S. Foster's Company which lists John Smart as a private who enlisted April 1, 1813.

John married Alvira Haskins, May 23, 1819, Stamford, Vermont. She was born in either Massachusetts or New Haven, Connecticut. She died March 5, 1868 in Girard, Branch County, Michigan.
