She was the daughter of John and Alvira Smart, born July 2, 1827, in Reedsborough, Bennington county, Vermont. She was married to Dr. William M. Rich, and four children were born, two are living. They are Mrs. Fred Langendorf and Miss Bertha Rich. Mr. Rich died January 26, 1911.
