"Hugh Carlin Stark, 91, Excelsior Springs, died Aug. 22, 1987, at the Excelsior Springs City Hospital Convalescent Center, 1700 Rainbow Drive. He was born in Lamar, Mo., lived in Excelsior Springs from 1936 to 1954 and moved to Boulder, Colo., in 1954. He moved back to Excelsior Springs in 1971. Mr. Stark was a dry cleaner in Excelsior Springs and Boulder for more than 40 years and retired in 1963. He was a Navy veteran of World War I. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the American Legion and its World War I Barracks. He was a past commander of the American Legion post in California, Mo., and a past commander and charter member of the American Legion post in Stockton, Mo. Survivors include his wife, Willa Stark of the home; a son, Bill Stark of Birmingham, Ala.; four daughters, June Young of Excelsior Springs, Winifred Martin of Mira Loma, Calif., Barbara Vorhees of Springfield, Mo., and Joan Wood of Lake Zurich, Ill.; a brother, Eugene O. Stark of La Grange, Ill.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be at 2:30 p.m. today at the Prichard Chapel, Excelsior Springs; burial in Crown Hill Cemetery, Excelsior Springs." The Kansas City Times, August 24, 1987
