Merediith Stone was born in 1793 in Mecklenburg County, VA to Elijah and Rebecca (Roberts) Stone, Jr. He lived his early years around Mecklenburg County. He was always nearby and became interested in his first cousin Elizabeth Ann "Betsy" Garrett. They first took out a marriage bond in Warren County, NC in which the date was listed as 7 Feb 1826. They were later married in Mecklenburg County, VA 6 Mar 1826 with the permission of Betsy's mother Mary Ann (Roberts) Garrett. The Stones with various Garrett family members relocated to Maury County, TN, where some of their children were born. However in the 1840 U. S. Census, they are found in Tishomingo County MS, but in 1850 have returned to TN but Hardin County. In the mid 1850 the Stone family moved to White County, AR. Meredith purchased two parcels of land in White County on 1 Dec 1857, which totaled 316.83 acres. They were parents to two daughters: Louisa Jane (Stone) Hogan and Rebecca Mary Ann Stone; and seven sons: Elijah Franklin Stone, John William Stone, James Thomas Stone, Stephen W. Stone, George Washington Dallas "Dal" Stone, Richard H. Stone, and Richard Dabner Stone. With Rebecca Mary Ann and John William, Meredith were among the first to be buried in the family cemetery which became known as Union Hill Celmetery, near El Paso, White County, AR.
