Daisy was one of four small children when her mother passed away and her father was left with the difficult decision of sending his daughters to live with other family members. He was a logger and was unable to watch and care for them and work to provide for his family, too.
Daisy never saw her brothers or dad, again.

As a young woman; she married, raised a large family of 10 children on a Louisiana farm with her husband, Iley Edgar Kelley. Her own daughter described her years later as a tender, sweet, gentle, loving mother. She was diminuitive in size, but had a heart of gold.

Her children were:
Ina, Tillman, Doris, Estelle, Nixie, Oree, Ernest W. (Joe),Nobie, Tritus, Geraldine and Herman. Nixie died at the age of 5 when nearby loggers were felling trees. He ignored his mother's warning, as young children often do and wandered too close to the worksite. He was killed by a falling tree.

All of the other Kelley children grew up to adulthood. Ina, Tillman and Doris had no children of their own.

Of all the grandchildren, there were only three Kelley grandsons: Ed, Bill and David.

Daddy spoke lovingly of his sweet mother and following surgery he once gently whispered to me, "I can see momma in a blue cotton dress and she's calling me home."

She raised her children to work hard, to be kind to others and to give a helping hand and to love God.

Daisy's grandmother Jane Wardrup Hurt is listed on F A G as Jane Hurt, Cedar Grove Cemetery, Boothe, Arkansas. She was married to Zaccheus Hurt and the mother of many children, including Thomas Benjamin Hurt.
