February 2, 1913 – October 28, 2007 Mamie Lee (Hearne) Bass went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 28, 2007. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Wednesday, October 31 at Hillier Funeral Home, with services following at the funeral home chapel at 11 a.m. Burial and a short service will immediately follow at Bryan City Cemetery. Mamie was born in Kurten, Texas, on February 2, 1913 to John Hearne and Ada Tobias. She was married to Merriman "Sam" Claude Bass of Bryan for 67 years. Mamie was employed at Palais Royal in Houston for many years but her passions were her family and friends and doing for those she loved. She expressed herself through singing, cooking and designing clothes. Mamie called Houston her home since 1948. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Artie Hearne, Bryan Hearne, Lonnie Hearne, Richard Hearne and Leonard Hearne; sisters, Minnie Hearne, Nettie Hearne, Cora Bell and Jewel "Tommie" Shealy; husband, Sam; grandson, Sean Loney; and granddaughter, Amy K. Mallory. Survivors include her two sons and daughters-in-law, Howard and Betty Bass and John and Margie Bass; four daughters and three sons-in-law, Norma and James Mintz, Marian and Skip Leibensperger, Bonnie Bass and Deborah and Billy Johnson; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mamie will be missed by those who dearly loved her.
