Isabel Fouche Ashe Bonnyman - age 85, died peacefully at St. Mary's Residential Hospice on April 30. She was a daughter of the late Edward Joseph and Jennie Brownlow Ashe, and was married for sixty-two years to Gordon Bonnyman, who died in July 2004.

She was an active member of Sacred Heart Cathedral. She attended Georgetown Visitation Junior College in Washington, DC, and the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Mrs. Bonnyman had a busy career as a wife and mother of five children, grandmother of twelve, and great-grandmother of five. She was also active in the Knoxville Garden Club and held national office in the Garden Club of America. A gifted storyteller and wit, she suffered a cruel blow in 1993 when she lost her larynx and voice to cancer. Undaunted, she became a counselor to other cancer survivors whose voices were removed, and she wrote a helpful booklet of tips and encouragement which is currently used both locally and at such medical centers as M.D.Anderson in Texas and the Harvard Medical School.

She is survived by: her children, Dr. Isabel Bonnyman Stanley and husband, Brooke of Johnson City, Gordon Bonnyman, Jr., and wife, Claudia of Nashville, the Rev. Anne Bonnyman of Boston, Alexander Bonnyman and
wife, Jean of Rome, Georgia, Dr. Brian Bonnyman and wife, Jean Webb of Knoxville; grandchildren, Frances Stanley, Brooke Stanley, Jr., Dr. Anne Stanley Todd, Houston Bonnyman, Gordon Lippincott, John Lippincott, Alex Lippincott, Elizabeth Lippincott, Edward Bonnyman, Norman Bonnyman, Isabel Bonnyman, Claire Bonnyman, Helen Bonnyman; great-grandchildren, Isabel Stanley-Kemler, Caleb Stanley-Kemler, Forrest Todd, Morgan Todd, Rowan Todd and Kieran DeWalt; her sister, Catherine Ashe Maloy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father T. Al Humbrecht officiating. Interment to follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: InterFaith Health Clinic, 315 Gill Ave, Knoxville, TN 37917 or Sacred Heart Cathedral School, 711 Northshore Drive, Knoxville, TN 37919. The family will receive friends 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday with a prayer service to follow at Rose Mortuary Mann Heritage Chapel.
