Russell K. Howell, age 72, a long time resident of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas passed away September 2, 2010 after a short bout with cancer. He was born at home to Willie and Bridgie McCullough-Howell on June 3, 1938 in Union, South Carolina. He was the youngest of 12 children of a share-croppers family. Russell served active duty in the Air Force from 1960 to 1964. Russell thrived on his 54 years in the shoe business. The last 29 years he was an integral part of the SAS family which he lived for and loved dearly. He was preceded in death by "Cap'n" Terry Armstrong and survived by Lew Hayden, the founding fathers of SAS. Russell was not only an integral part of the SAS family but also owned retail shoe stores in South Carolina. His personal interest other than shoes was his passion for cars and his love of golf. He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and one sister, Ervin Lee, J.E., Eugene, and Callie Clark. He was survived by his loving wife Martha of 50 years, two daughters, and precious grandchild, Ryan Cox. He was also survived by six brothers and one sister, William, Howard, Ned, Charles, Bill, Don and Sara Ann Farr as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
