Albert Schmidt, 75, died early Thursday morning at the local hospital after a long illness. Mr. Schmidt, a native of the Gardner area was born on October 3, 1894. He was reared on a ranch on Bruff Creek where he worked with his parents, the late Emil and Bertha Schmidt.
After he reached his adulthood he continued the operation of the ranch until his retirement in 1957 where he moved into Gardner. He spend about two years serving with the Army and been overseas.
Mr Schmidt, who was reared in the Lutheran faith, was married to Myrtle Benson on May 21, 1921. He attended the Gardner Methodist church.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs Myrtle Schmidt, Gardner, a son, Joseph Schmidt, Alamosa, a daughter, Mrs Dorothy Arnold, La Veta; a brother Charles Schmidt, Canon City, nine grandchildren and one-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Saturday at the Gardner Methodist Church, Rev. Eugene Schulz officiated, VFW Post #2643 confered military honors at the Gardner Cemetery Boies Memorial Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
