GRACE CLARK KIRK-30:
Osakis car collides with train at StPaul MN.
Three Osakis people were killed-2 injured when a Minneapolis-StLouis freight train crashed into an automobile at ComoAve & the Northern Pacific RR crossing StPaul Tuesday night. The victims were driving toward the StPaul loop when the accident occurred.
DB McClerry, driver of the car & MrsCloe Black were killed instantly. MrsAlvin Kirk died of a fractured skull a few minutes after she was admitted to Ancker Hosp. Mr&Mrs Walter Clark-Osakis were injured.
MrsClark suffered a fractured leg & abrasions of the face & MrClark severe lacerations & abrasions. The car was thrown 10 feet & hurled against a railroad signal post. McClerry's body was found in the car while that of MrsBlack had been dragged 50yrds down the tracks. Although there is a yellow stop sign & a centerpost with a red flashing light at the crossing, Clark said he did not see either & did not believe McClerry saw them.
Harvey Howard, engineer on the freight train said his train was moving abt 40mi an hour when it struck the car. "I saw the automobile coming at high speed, but thought the driver would see the signals & my train & slow up" Howard said. "When I realized he was not going to stop it was too late for me to do so."
