Rodney Lufkin Davenport Sr. returned to his Heavenly Father on August 29, 2010. He passed away peacefully of natural causes with his family by his side.

Rodney was born on June 13, 1914, to Franklin Remington Davenport and Kate Naomi Lufkin in Hood River, Oregon. He married his childhood sweetheart, Dorothy Mae Cox, on April 1, 1943 in Seattle, WA. Their marriage was solemnized in the Manti Temple on October 20, 1952. Dorothy passed away on July 12, 1957.

Rodney married LaRee Gray Dickerson on June 2, 1958, joining together a family of seven children. LaRee passed away on August, 14, 2000.

Rodney was faithful in the L.D.S. Church and served in many callings. His testimony has been a source of strength to all who had the blessing of knowing him. He was a veteran of World War II.

He loved Harley Davidson motorcycles, BYU, and was an accomplished musician. He mentored other musicians, including Doc Serverinsen. Rodney loved conducting music and could be counted on to perform every Easter in Church as long as he was able. He loved spending time with family, always greeting them with a smile, bounce and light snap of the finger.

Rodney is preceded in death by his wives, Dorothy Mae Cox and LaRee Gray Dickerson; and his eldest son, Rodney Lufkin Davenport Jr.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Venetta Morrill Davenport; children; D. Larry (Janice), James L. (Merlene), Kathleen Kolterman (Ernest), Donna Snyder (Russell), Diane Hughes (George), and Randy E. (Kelly); 42 grandchildren and 92 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the many friends and staff of Greenwood Manor who helped care for Rodney in his golden years.

Friends may visit at a viewing held Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at Wing Mortuary (118 East Main, Lehi). Funeral services will be held Friday, September 3, 2010, at 11:00 am in the Lehi Wines Park Ward Chapel (200 North Center, Lehi). Prior to services a viewing will be held at 9:30 until 10:30 am.
