"Homer Clifton Acker was born in Fillmore county, Nebraska, near the present site of Martland, April 10, 1882. He departed this life Friday afternoon, August 20, 1943. Mr. and Mrs. Acker and their daughter Louise were on their way to Omaha to visit Mr. Acker's brother, Charles and family when death came suddenly about three miles this side of Gretna. He had been in ill health for some time prior to his passing.
[On] May 20, 1903, Mr. Acker was united in marriage to Miss Amanda Schultz at the Methodist parsonage in Grafton, after which they established their home near Martland, where they lived the first year of their married life. In 1904 they moved to their present home northwest of Geneva, where they had lived since that time. To this union was born one child, their daughter, Louise.
Mr. Acker was a good man. He was not an active member of any church, but at one time he united with the United Bretheren church at Martland [where his father was a very active member]. A bit retiring in disposition, he found it more desirable to spend his evenings and Sundays at home. He was a good citizen and neighbor, a devoted husband and father, and he had the respect and confidence of all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife and daughter, two brothers, Charles of Omaha and George of Exeter, besides other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted at the Kritner Funeral Home in Geneva Monday afternoon. August 23, Rev. W.B. Pardun, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Interment was in the Geneva Cemetery."
