Edmund was the grandson of William Morris and son of John Jones, who together were very active in battling Indians and settling the frontier in Western Virginia, now West Virginia. Edmund was the first Jones to migrate north to Indiana and was greatly instrumental in establishing Wayne County as a center of importance in the new state.
