He was born in Ludlow, son of Yvonne Kestler and the late Edward J. Kestler, and was educated in Holyoke schools.
James was a United States Army Veteran of the later Vietnam Era. He was a machinist by trade and worked for the past ten years as a roofer for several area companies. Jimmy had a troubled existence. His liver finally succumed to the ravaging long-term effects of his alcohol and drug abuse.
Besides his mother, he was survived by one son, Michael Kestler of Holyoke, two brothers, Raymond Lacroix of Illinois and Edward Kestler of Massachusetts, two sisters, Janet Lavigne of Ludlow, and Carol Chenevert of Feeding Hills, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Marlene Bean and Judith Bumgardner.
