C. E. Straight died at his home in Conway Monday, May 31, after having a paralytic stroke the previous Wednesday evening, from which he never rallied.
The funeral services were held at the Methodist church in Conway, Wednesday afternoon, June 2, conducted by Rev. James A. Walls. Burial was in the Conway cemetery.
Charles Eli Straight, son of Marion and Nancy Straight, was born in Grundy County, Mo., Jan. 13, 1871, being aged 66 years, 3 months and eighteen days of age at the time of his death.
Sept. 11, 1901 he was married to Hattie Horning. To this union were born six children, Marion Straight, Hazel Bishoff, Vernon Straight, Edna Straight, Lee Straight and Helen Straight, all of whom with the devoted wife were with him through the brief illness. Besides the sorrowing wife and children he leaves his aged father, seven sisters and two brothers, he being the first to be taken from a family of ten children.
Thirty-seven years ago he gave his heart to God and had lived a sincere Christian life, setting for himself a high moral standard which he daily endeavored to obtain. He enjoyed dong his Master's work in Sunday school, church or among his fellowmen, wherever he could administer in any way.
Mr. Straight was well known in Taylor County, having resided in the New Market vicinity for several years, and later on a farm near Conway and Sharpsburg from 1922 until three years ago, when he moved in to Conway.
Although he had been in failing health for twenty years he never complained and has taken an active part in the church, school, and welfare work of the community. He was always of a very cheerful disposition and his absence will be deeply felt by all his many friends, as well as by his devoted family.
