Thomas J. Speer, 82, retired Lawrence County farmer, died suddenly at 2:10 PM Sunday at his home in the Mundell Church community about three miles east of Heltonville. He had been in failing health the past two years.
Dr. Roland E. Wynne, Lawrence county coroner, attributed his passing to disease of the coronary arteries.
A native of Lawrence county, the deceased was the son of Robert and Phoebe Fountain Speer and was born November 11, 1865. He married Marenda Steele January 16, 1887, who survives.
Other survivors are a son, Eithel Speer, at home; a daughter Mrs. Ona Hunter of the Mundell community; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Emeline Clampitt of Pinhook.
The remains were prepared for burial at the Leston Jones Funeral Home in Heltonville and will lie in state there.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Mundell Christian Church, of which he had been a member for 35 years, at 2:00 PM Tuesday with the pastor, Rev. Gene Dulin, of Heltonville in charge.
Burial will be in the Mundell cemetery.
