Nellie Grace Burkholder Landes, 91, of Bridgewater, and formerly of Dayton, passed away Sunday, Aug. 22, 2010, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg.

She was born in Dayton on Feb. 10, 1919, and was a daughter of the late Oliver Atlee and Anna Grace (Showalter) Burkholder.

Nellie was a retired CNA at the Bridgewater Home. She was a member of Dayton Mennonite Church.

She was united in marriage on Oct. 8, 1947, to Ward Biedler Landes, who preceded her in death on Oct. 19, 2009.

Nellie is survived by two daughters, Verna Lineweaver of Winchester and Wilma Hertzler and husband, Ike, of Dayton; a son, Kenny Landes and wife, Edith, of Dayton; three grandchildren, Michelle Madden and husband, Mike, Brian Lineweaver and wife, Paige, and Amber Hertzler; and three great-grandchildren, Emily and Kate Madden and Meredith Lineweaver.

She was preceded in death by eight brothers and sisters, Roy Burkholder, John Burkholder, Esther Landes, Dan Burkholder, Paul Burkholder, Henry Burkholder, Francis Eberly and Mary Rhodes.

A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010, at Dayton Mennonite Church with Pastors Daryl Driver and Raleigh Rhodes officiating. James Rhodes will conduct a committal service at the church cemetery following the funeral service.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 25, 2010, at the Dayton Mennonite Church.

Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater is in charge of arrangements.
