Mrs Lucy L. Smith, 86, wife of the late Neal Smith, early-day residents of the Lexington community, died Saturday at the McCurdy hospital after a brief illness.
Services were conducted Tuesday morning in Lexington's St John's Catholic church, with Father A.O. Murphy officiating.
Mrs Smith came to Lexington, with her husband, from Illinois in 1889. He operated a real estate office there until 1924, when they moved to Oklahoma City. He operated a grocery there until his death in 1936. She returned to live in Lexington a few years later. Active in church matters, Mrs Smith was a former member of St. Joseph's Altar Society in Oklahoma City.
She is survived by a daughter, Mrs Pauline Whitsett of Oklahoma City, 2 sisters, Mrs Fred Giroux and Mrs Adeline Farley, both of Lexington, 11 grandchildren, and 23 great grandchildren.
Interment was in the Lexington Catholic cemetery under direction of the Yoakum funeral home. Grandsons served as casket bearers. They were Paul & Robert Whitsett, Bob Smith, and Paul, Neal, & Don Black.
