Walter Marks--Funeral services were conducted at the galesburg Methodist Episcopal Church Saturday afternoon for Walter Marks with Rev. J.B. Protchard of Deep River in charge of the services. Burial was at Hewitt Cemetery (buried in Saint Andrews Lutheran Cemetery, Sully, Iowa). Pallbearers were Peter Zwank, Ernest Rohrdanz, Lowell carpenter, Marion Butin, Robert Rohrdanz, and naldo Steenhoek.
Walter Marks was born in Holland, Jan. 31, 1866, he came to this country when about seven years of age with his parents, settling near Pella, later moving near galesburg.
He died July 11, 1935 at his home at the age of 68 years. On Sept. 30, 1890 he was united in marriage to Hannah Herwehe of Monroe, and to this union were born five children, Anna, Mrs. Gertie Steenhoek, Hattie (who died in infancy), Henry and Daisy (who died Nov. 17, 1929) and five grandchildren. He united with the Methodist Episcopal Church at Galesburg 40 years ago.
He leaves his widow, Anna and Henry at home and Mrs. Gertie Steenhoek of Pella and Mrs. H. Slykhuis of Knoxville and a large number of relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, his parents and one sister.
