Fifty-Year Member Dies

Mr. Jakie S. Edge, 90, of River View, a member of WestPoint Pepperell's 50-Year-Club, died Saturday evening at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Tuskegee following a shor period of declinng health.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at Johnson Brown-Servive Chapel in Langdale, with the Rev. Jack Dye Jr., and Elder A. W. Morris officiating. Burial wil be in Shawmut Cemetery.

Mr. Edge is survived by his wife Mrs. Alice Goodman Edge; one daughter, Mrs. Mildredge Dean, one son, James Edge of Jonesoro, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

A native of Chambers County, Mr. Edge was a veteran of World War I and a member of Providence Primitive Baptist Church. He was a retired employee of Shawmut Mill where he was a Twister Tender in the Twisting Department. With 51 years of continuous service. Mr. Edge was a member of the WestPoint Pepperell 50-Year club.

The following biographical sketch, reflecting Mr. Edge's long record of service with the textile company as presented at the time he was inducted into the 50-Year Club.

"Born Dec. 3, 1891, in Cusseta, Ala; worked in Lanett Mill during 1907-1908 in spinning and weavign departments; came to Shawmut Mill in 1909, workig in spinning, warp and beaming and twister departments until 1917, when he entered military service, serving 22 months (12 monhts overseas) in World War I; worked in Fairfax Mill during 1923-1924; re-employed at Shawmut Mill in May, 1924, where he has worked continously since; has run every job in twisting department except that of overseer; wife, one sister, three brothes, one son, three daughters and on granddaughter have worked for WPP Manufacturing Company; member Lebanon Primitive Baptist church; during his leisure time, he enjoys working around his home."

Johnson Brown-Service Funeral Home in Langdale is in charge of the arrangements.
