He was born August 9, 1909 in Chambersburg, son of the late Phillip and Harriet V. (John) Bietsch. Also preceded in death by wife, former Esther Wallech, who died in 1975; an infant grandson; grandson, Raymond Stevens; former son-in-law, Ronald Stevens; brothers, Albert, Phillip, Walter, Arthur and Elmond; and sisters, Melissa Michaels, Bertha Martin, Helen Michaels and Esther Cormany.
Survived by these daughters, Sandra Stevens, widow of Ronald Stevens, Johnstown; Mary Jane, wife of R. Harry Bittle, Chambersburg; and Anne, wife of Joseph R. Dalla Valle, Windber. Also survived by seven grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the last member of his immediate family.
Bob worked all his life in Chambersburg, at the former Piedmont Knitting Mill and former Blue Ridge Knitting Mill Machine Shop, and then later for CASD. He retired from CASD in 1974 as assistant supervisor of buildings and grounds.
(Bob's grandfather, John Samuel John, was a member of 158th infantry in the Union Army).
From 1927 to 2002, he was a volunteer fireman with Goodwill Steam Fire Engine and Hose Co. 3 and was recognized as the oldest firman at the age of 93.
Upon retirement he volunteered for more than 27 years with Chambersburg Office of Aging's Meals on Wheels program. At age 93, he was recognized as the program's oldest volunteer.
He was a 44 year member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg, where his family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until time of service at 1:00 p.m. Friday. The Rev. Dr. Neal Hively will officiate. Interment will follow immediately at Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
