LAST RITES FOR PERCY A. BARRETT WERE HELD TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Eldest Son of County Clerk of Courts dies at Faulkton following operation
Percy A. Barrett, eldest son of County Clerk of Courts and Mrs. A. W. Barrett of this city, passed away at the Faulkton hospital Sunday, following an operation a week before in an effort to right an internal trouble caused by a ruptured appendix and other complications.
Born near Gettysburg on November 20, 1892, Percy had spent the greater share of his life in Potter County. A bachelor, Percy was favorably known among the people of this territory as one who met his obligations well, with always an open eye to welfare of his parents.
He served some twenty months as a private in Uncle Sam's army during the World War, and since that time spent many months with government surveying parties.
A large number were at hand for the funeral service, held at the M. E. Church at 2: 00 o'clock Tuesday, in charge of Rev. John V. Leach, including many ex-service men and former associates. Offices at the court house were closed during the funeral hours as a mark of respect to Clerk of Courts Barrett and his family loss.
He leaves to mourn his passing, his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. A. W. Barrett, three brothers, Edwin L., Robert F. and Clarence A. Barrett; two sisters, Mrs. Jay J. Brokaw of Lebanon and Mrs. Clarence Brokaw of Nisland, as well as many relatives and friends. Two sisters, Mrs. Mattie McCamley and Nellie Barrett preceded him in death.
Here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Burr of Sioux City and Mr. and Mrs. George Cross of Sioux Falls, the ladies being sisters of the deceased's father; also P. J. Peterson of Hettinger, N. D., and Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Brokaw of Nisland.
Vocal numbers especially selected for Percy's funeral were "There Will Be No Disappointments in Heaven." and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere."
A Loved one from us has gone,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled.
