Born Glenda Letitia Dillon on 6 October 1922 on the family homestead in a limestone house near Luray, Russell, Kansas. The house had been built from limestone quarried by her maternal grandfather from his quarry in 1888. In her early years she attended school in another limestone building quarried by her Grandfather.

When she was about 10 her parents moved the family from Kansas to a new homestead near Rawlins, Carbon, Wyoming where she attended school until the last year of her high school. At that time she moved back to Kansas to live with her older sister, Alice (Leland) Albach Clarke. She graduated from Russell High School and then moved to Garden City to live with her oldest sister, Roberta (Hugh) Albach Farquharson in order to attend college.

By the time the war came she was back in Rawlins living with her mother. To contribute to the war effort she joined the WAVES in October 1943, and served as a Yeoman Third Class stationed in Washington DC. It was there that she met and married her husband, Paul James McGrath, a Marine temporarily stationed in DC recovering from illnesses contracted in the Pacific Theater. They married on 7 October 1944 in Annapolis, Ann Arundel, Maryland. She was discharged from the Navy on 5 February 1945, when she went back to Rawlins to wait for her new husband to join her. After the war they stayed in Wyoming where she followed Paul around the state as he finished his education then established his career. While raising her two children she either attended school in Laramie or worked other jobs including a private secretary to a state legislator while they were in Cheyenne. At the time of her death she was teaching school near Chugwater Wyoming.

When she died she left behind her husband, mother, siblings, and two young children, a boy of 15 and a girl of 9. She was greatly loved by many.
