Mary Elizabeth Johnston, 89, of Versailles, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, Aug. 12, 2010, at Wayne Hospital in Greenville.

Mary was born March 25, 1921, in Claysville, Pa., to the late Alva and Goldie (Kerns) Black.

Mary is survived by a daughter, Nancy Marrs; a son, Ralph Johnston Jr.; grandchildren, Kevin Marrs, Alicia and Sam Meadows, and Libby and Chad Kennard; great-grandchildren, Sara Marrs and Jade and Ashton Meadows; sisters, Katherine Dross and Grace Linniman; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Mary is also preceded in death by her husband, Ralph E. Johnston Sr., on March 25, 2010, whom she married July 6, 1942; and a sister, Lucille Meyer.

Mary was a homemaker and caregiver. She was a member of the Versailles United Methodist Church. Mary loved to bake for the Easter Market for the church. She also loved to paint and draw. Mary loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Bailey Zechar Funeral Home in Versailles, with Pastor Rick Gutheil officiating. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery in Sidney.

The family will receive friends Monday from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
