THE PARIS NEWS, Oct. 05, 2004: 'J. W. Abels Jr., 94, of Paris died Monday, Oct. 4, 2004, at Heritage Care Center. Graveside services are set for 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at Evergreen Cemetery with the Rev. Ray Starnes and the Rev. Gary Regan officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home. He was born June 1, 1910, in Lamar County, a son of J. W. and Fannie Rebecca Hammond Abels Sr. He married Isabel Bridges in Paris in 1934. He started his career as a teller in the bank at Blossom and later in farming and ranching in Lamar County. He was overseer for the E. S. Crowley estate for many years and then began farming on his own. He was also secretary for the Water Resource Board of Auds Creek. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Isabel, in 1998; his parents; an infant daughter; an infant granddaughter; two sisters; and a brother. Survivors include a daughter, Joan Pryse and husband, Scott; two granddaughters, Jennifer Ann Pryse of Oklahoma City, and Julie Pryse Tompkins and husband, Shane, of Columbus, Miss.; a great-grandson, John Pryse Tompkins; and numerous nieces and nephews.'
