Hayden M. Pifer, 72 died Saturday at the Erie VA Medical Center.
He was born in DuBois on Dec. 19, 1916, a son of the late George and Erma Pifer. He had resided in Erie since 1950.
He retired from the Erie General Electric plant in 1978 after 38 years of service. He was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and served with the US Army during World War II.
Besides his wife, Dorothy Marko Pifer, he is survived by a son, Robert Pifer of Fairview; two daughters, Mrs. Daniel (Carol) Fontenetta of Chicago, IL and Linda Fleshman of Ann Arbor, MI; two step-sons Ronald Pace of Erie and Richard Pace of Orlando, FL, one step-daughter, Mrs. Edward (Barbara) Zdarko of Titusville; two brothers, Norman Pifer of Erie and James Pifer od Murrieta, CA; one sister, Mrs. Ralph (Montrose) Buhite of Millcreek; 22 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
His first wife, Bette Tiedgen Pifer, preceded him in death.
No calling hours will be observed. Friends may attend a graveside service at Laurel Hill Cemetery Wednesday at 1pm. The Rev. James Kane of Cascade United Methodist Church will officiate.
Arangments are being handled by the Dusckas Funeral Home West, 536 W. 10th St. Memorials may be made to the Erie County Diabetes Association, Inc., 1741 W. 26th Street, Erie, PA 16508.
