Son of the late Charles William and Ellen O'Donnell (nee Sutton) Costin of Fernberg Road, Paddington, Brisbane. He applied for a Commission in the Australian Expeditionary Force on 18 August 1914. He embarked at Brisbane for acive service abroad on 24 September 1914 per HMAT "Omrah" (A5). He was killed in action aged 23 years.
