Robert Mosby Allen was a Aviation Ordnanceman Third Class in the United States Naval Reserve, assigned to the unit Drew Three of the 25th Naval Construction Battalion.

 

Robert Was Kia When he Was on the beach killed from a German landmine detonation on 4 August 1944, he is honored with a Purple Heart, Good Combat Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, American Campaign Medal, Navy & Marine Corps Presidential Unit Citation, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal.

AOM3c Robert Mosby Allen, USNR V-6 (SV), was killed on 4 August 1944. AOM3c Allen was a graduate from Navy Bomb Disposal Class #30, 6 October 1943. AOM3c Allen was assigned to a unit called DREW THREE J4A on 20 December 1943. DREW THREE was sort of a Seabee unit whose job it was to build the temporary artificial harbor following the D-Day landings on 6 June 1944. This harbor construction project was code named Operation Mulberry. DREW THREE was commanded by LCDR R.D. Moore, USNR and DREW THREE was assigned to Mulberry A (American, CTF-128), commanded by CAPT Augustus Dayton Clark, USN operating from submarine chaser USS SC-1329. Mulberry A was placed on Omaha Beach (Gold Beach) at Saint-Laurent sur-Mer during the Normandy Invasion. AOM3c Allen arrived on Omaha Beach on 7 June 1944. Once completed, DREW THREE was detached and ordered to report to the N.O.I.C. Omaha Beach. On 16 July 1944, N.O.I.C. Omaha Beach became U.S. Naval Advanced Base Eleven. AOM3c Allen was killed from a German landmine detonation at 1105 hours on 4 August 1944. He was one and half miles east of USNAB Number Eleven, Normandy, France. AOM3c Allen was posthumously awarded the Purple Heart Medal.
