His aircraft took off from Thurleigh, England and were assigned to bomb an industrial area at Lille, France. They were involved in a mid-air collision with a second bomber called "Four of a Kind" about three miles north of Lille. Both crashed at Marcq-en-Baroeul. 2LT Grant was among the six KIA . Four crew members became POWs.
