Obit for Rudolph Maurer

Rudolph Maurer Dead
The community was greatly saddened Sunday by news from Minneapolis that Rudolph Maurer had died that afternoon at Asbury hospital. The news was not unexpected, as for several days, Mr. Maurer's condition was considered hopeless.

Mr Maurer had been an invalide from bladder troubles for some time, though able to be around and to do some work around his home. It was not until three or four weeks ago that his condition became serious and he had to take to his bed. He became worse so rapidly that a consultation was held with the physicians at the hospital and they advised that the only hope for the patient was to remove him to the hospital where he could undergo an operation. This was done last week and the operation performed Wednesday, as mentioned in last week's paper. For the time the patient seemed to rally but later relapsed and steadily became weaker until the end. The operation was undertaken as a last resort and the family have the consolation of knowing that everything was done that could be done.

His son, Charles Maurer, was with him until the end and after the death returned with the body to Fairfax, where the funeral, one of the largest ever held from the Methodist church, was held Tuesday. Further services were held at Mud Lake Cemetery, where interment occurred.

Rudolph Maurer was born in Switzerland in the year 1832 and died in Asbury hospital Minneapolis on Sunday June 10, 1900 at 4:15 p.m. age 68 years.
He came to this country at the age of 18, was married to Louise Binder[sic] in the year 1862. And to them were born six children, four daughters and two sons, the eldest daughter preceded him to the other world. In 1864, they came from the state of Ohio to Carver county, Minnesota and since 1892 the family lived in Fairfax.

He leaves his bereaved wife, three daughters, Mrs. Richard Reinke, Mrs. A. V. Rieke and Mary Maurer, and two sons, Charles and Samuel, all of Fairfax.
Mr. Maurer was during his whole life very much interested in church work, and a devoted Christian.
